This short help library is intended to give an introduction of basic Sharepoint concepts for the beginner contributor or administrator.
The help library is organized as follows:
Adding Content : How to contribute items to a list or library.
Creating Lists : How to define a new list or library, and how to customize the list to meet your needs.
Designing a Page : How to add, arrange and modify parts on a page.
Creating a Site : A brief guide to creating a new subsite or workspace. You are encouraged to create your own site "sandbox" to play with Sharepoint in the Personal Website area.
About Security : An overview of the options available to grant permissions to persons or groups.
Glossary: A short list of the terms used within this help library that may be new to the reader. For an exhaustive list of terms, see the Sharepoint Help system Glossary .
If you plan to experiment with parts and pages, we recommend you start by Creating a Site in the personal site area. This can be your sand box where you can modify pages and content, and simply delete the site when you are finished learning about Sharepoint.
The Sharepoint help system is extensive, and can be found by clicking " Help" in the main navigation bar found at the top of every page.
The other links in the main navigation bar are just as useful, and always available on every page in the site:
Home: This link always takes you back to the main page of the current site.
Documents and Lists: Displays a directory of all the libraries and lists created within the current site.
Create: Allows the administrator to create new lists within the site, or create new
sub sites below this site.
Site Settings: Allows the administrator to modify the theme and security for the site, and allows contributors to manage their personal information and settings for the current site.
Help: A very good and extensive help system on all aspects of the Windows Sharepoint Services product.
Up To (parent site name): When visiting a sub site, this link appears on the far right and will take you up one level to the parent site.
