Designing a page consists of adding web parts to each zone, and modifying the attributes of each web part.
When you are authenticated, the login button changes to a drop down menu "Modify Shared Page". The menu consists of the following commands:
Add Web Parts - Use this area to select a part and drag it onto the page
Browse - Select from existing "galleries" of parts, include existing lists and libraries on the site. Custom parts that have been installed by the
administrator appear in the "Virtual Server Gallery".
Search - If there are too many galleries to browse, use this search box to find a part on the site.
Import - If you have "Exported" or downloaded a part from another site, you can import from your hard drive to the page. This is handy if you have a standard part like a common header that you want to add to a variety of pages or sites.
Design page - Clicking this box toggles the page from regular mode to design mode. In this mode you can grab parts on the page and move them to different positions, or click on the part menu (the small arrow at the right of the title bar) and choose to modify or delete the part.
Modify shared parts - This sub menu displays all parts on the page. Selecting a part opens the "Tool Pane" to modify the settings of this part.
Shared view & Personal view - Individual users can modify the page for their own purposes. These links toggle between the public shared version and your personal version of the current page.
Every part has the following attributes, and some custom parts have additional settings:
Appearance: includes the title, height and width if provided, and the Frame Style, which controls whether the title bar appears during regular mode.
Layout: controls the visibility and position of the part on the page. Instead of dragging a part to a zone or above or below another part, you can move and position the part from this menu.
Advanced: allows the administrator to control whether a visitor can close or move the part in their personal view, and override the help file and icon used for the part.
